One of the drawbacks of most thermoplastic materials is the possible electrical charge of the surface. As an example it is possible to charge a surface by simply blowing an air stream over the surface. The charging may result in surface build-up of dust and dirt,
with a risk of creating sparks.
Electrical charging may be reduced or at the best avoided by:
• high moisture content (>65%)
• ionisation of the air
• adding additives
Additives such as carbon black are an effective way to obtain a permanent antistatic effect. For higher effects other types of additives are used.
